Dear Imlaak, Read your article today about the investment options for expat where you discourage us buying house for rental purpose, I have one 6 marla plot in central Lahore on my mothers name, As the area is always in high demand & I do not have much time or experience to get into market to sale or purchase the property I was planning to construct it for monthly rent around 50k, as we already have the land and my investment will only to construct a house and get the rent, I will recover the investment within 7,8 years approx, do you recommend me going for this option or is it really not a profitable investment?

Dear Akarni,

There are a lot of factors which will determine if it is a worthwhile investment or not, in general yes residential rental should be avoided.
