Yes you can build a house on a farmhouse land, however you can have the registry of land done as a residential property instead of agricultural land.You may contact the registrar office of that land to know the bylaws of construction if any.

It is a general practice in Pakistan that people buy an agricultural land, get it walled, construct rooms/house and use it as a holiday house.
